Learn how kosher certifications work in food.

How do kosher food certifications work?

Kosher food certification is a rigorous process that involves a thorough inspection of all ingredients and food production processes. There are several certifying bodies around the world that are responsible for ensuring that food is produced in accordance with Jewish dietary laws.

The certificate is a globally accepted recognition that guarantees that processed products have been prepared in accordance with Kosher dietary guidelines. This allows the consumer community to purchase these products with confidence. Presented as a seal on the packaging of industrialized products, the Kosher Certificate is a document issued to prove that a production line of a given company meets the specific standards of the Orthodox Jewish diet.

The steps to obtain Kosher certification include conducting prior documentary research on the components and raw materials of the product in order to ensure certification. In addition, it is necessary to obtain detailed information about the entire manufacturing process. During this phase, some laboratory tests may be requested to check for damage to the product, such as the detection of residues of swine or other animal origin.

Next, a rabbi (a religious leader of the Jewish community) or another representative of the certifying body visits the factory in person to operate the production process. During the inspection, the rabbi checks that all equipment and furniture are clean and suitable for kosher use. In addition, it is checked that all ingredients are stored and used correctly. If everything is in compliance, the rabbi authorizes the use of the kosher seal on our products. This seal is placed on the product packaging to indicate that it was produced in accordance with Jewish dietary laws.

Products certified as kosher are constantly evaluated and the certificate is valid for one year. After this period, it is possible to renew it through a new audit carried out by the responsible bodies.

It is important to note that kosher food certification is not limited to Jewish foods. Many companies choose to become kosher certified to serve a wider clientele seeking high-quality, healthy foods. Kosher certification is a rigorous process, but many companies find it worthwhile to pursue the certification.
